Where to book your motorhome holiday: France and it's campsites

France is a popular holiday destination for British motorhome owners. One of our closest European neighbours, many enjoy France for the quality of its food and wine, diversity of scenery and ease of access just a short train or ferry trip away.

Better still, with a motorhome, you get to explore the country on your own terms, often staying in some of the most scenic places the country has to offer, including:

  • The romance and glamour of Paris
  • The natural beauty of the Cote d’Azur
  • 41 UNESCO world heritage sites scattered across the country

So with so many reasons to book your camping holidays in France, you might be wondering where’s best to visit?

This article showcases some of the holiday parks in France from The Caravan and Motorhome Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club.

How to book campsites in France

Booking campsites in France is similar to booking those in the UK, with most sites available for you to book online. Consider the following steps when booking:

Choose which areas you’d like to visit

France is a large country with many different regions, so staying within one or two can help you to narrow your focus for a more relaxing trip.

As you’ll discover below, each region has a unique culture, history, cuisine and sights for you to explore, so do your research to find what appeals most.

Book in advance

Most campsites in France are busy during the summer months so it’s always advisable to book in advance.

Two of the UK’s largest caravan and motorhome clubs, both The Caravan and Motorhome Club and Camping and Caravanning Club offer a wealth of French holiday parks and campsites available for you to book, with the same system as if you were booking a UK site.

These range from smaller campsites with few amenities, often set in a field or on a working farm, to larger holiday parks with many attractions, such as dog walks, tennis courts, kids clubs, sandy beaches nearby and even theme parks easily accessible.

Both the Camping and Caravanning Club and Caravan and Motorhome Club have useful campsite finder features on their websites that make it easy for you to filter by the area you wish to visit,  the type of campsite you want (e.g. dog-friendly, family-friendly etc.) and the kinds of features you want it to have (e.g. dog walk, play area etc.).

With campsites providing not only a base for further exploration of an area but also loads of entertainment and cultural experience opportunities onsite, camping holidays allow families to find exactly what they’re after from their time away.

Familiarise yourself with the road laws

With a larger country for a smaller population than the UK, the roads in France are can be quieter than those in the UK, especially on the motorways.

However be aware that France does drive on the right hand side of the road and has traffic laws for what essentials you must carry in the car with you.
