Bristanbul Campsites 3 Header

 27th April 2018

Onto leg 3 our of Bristanbul journey. Here's the campsites that we visited during this leg, travelling from Dragizhevo in Bulgaria to Budapest in Hungary.

Site 10: Camping Veliko Tărnovo, Dragizhevo, Bulgaria

This campsite was a real delight and a much higher standard than the last few we’d stayed at.

We loved it for lots of reasons: fantastic, clean facilities, a beautiful, peaceful location and the lovely warm welcome by the English couple that own (and built) it. They were also very helpful when we called from the Turkey border to explain we were delayed, and didn’t mind us arriving at past 4am!

They also have three British caravans available to rent, including a Bailey Pageant, and a swimming pool in summer.

With a small bar and restaurant/terrace, we also enjoyed a delicious breakfast and left wishing we could stay longer. It’s definitely a site and area we’d love to return to.

Site 11: Vampire Camping, Bran, Romania

We stayed here purely because of its name! It also happens to be the only campsite in Bran, but we weren’t disappointed with our choice.

Although old, the facilities were OK and the showers had plenty of hot water (but must get busy in peak season).

The pitches were large and some were by a stream, all with views of the surrounding mountains. You can just see the castle from the site, or it’s just over a mile walk into the town to see it for real.

Site 12: Camping Aurel Vlaicu, Aurel Vlaicu, Romania

By far the simplest site we’ve stayed on during the trip, but served us fine as all we really needed was a hook-up.

It is in a small, traditional Romanian village only 5-10 minutes from the motorway so a perfect stopover for us.

Its facilities are old and basic (only 2 showers) but does have a washing up area and they can provide some food. Access in and out of the front entrance is a bit tight, but there is another entrance at the rear.

The beauty of it is its setting looking out on fields and mountains beyond. Expect to be woken by a dawn chorus of cockerels and dogs. ACSI cards accepted.

Site 13: Arena Camping, Budapest, Hungary

Being in the centre of the city was a big contrast to our previous night in rural Aurel Vlaicu; but it was perfect for our sightseeing needs.

A short walk to the bus stop, which took us to the Metro, got us into the city centre fairly quickly - just what we wanted.

A great campsite for seeing Budapest. ACSI cards accepted.
