Exploring Yorkshire, one step at a time

It’s time to wrap up warm and make the most of the glorious sights of Yorkshire and its stunning scenery.

 

Offering some of the best walks in the UK, there is something special about exploring this part of the country in your caravan or motorhome, with plenty of UK campsites open all-year round.

Here are some of the walks that caught our eye…

Malham Village to Janet’s Foss, North Yorkshire

Taking only a couple of hours, this 3-mile walk to the wonderful waterfall at Janet’s Foss is an enchanting stroll. As you pass along rocky tracks and through woodlands and fields, this hike from Malham Village has long been one of the Yorkshire Dales most popular walks.

Looking for somewhere to stay? Try Hurries Farm Caravan and Motorhome Club Site in Skipton. Located just 11 minutes drive from Malham, the site is ideally located for this short North Yorkshire walk.

Roseberry Topping and Newton Wood walk

While at only 2 miles long and taking just 1 hour, this challenging but short walk takes in the panoramic views from the summit of Roseberry Topping. Having made the ascent up Cleveland’s most famous hill, complete your hike as you walk through Newton Wood.

Looking for somewhere to stay? Located just over 5 miles from Roseberry Topping, Park Farm Campsite is only a short drive from the start of this Cleveland walk in the North Yorkshire Moors

Ilkley to Bingley

Starting and finishing at stations, this is a great railway walk, making it accessible to all. Crossing Ilkley Moor and passing Wharfedale to Airedale, you’ll make your way through the village of Micklethwaite, before you arrive in Bingley via the Leeds & Liverpool canal.

At 7 miles long and just shy of a 3-hour walk, this is a West Yorkshire trek through open land.

Looking for somewhere to stay? Just a short drive from both Ilkley and Bingley is Clarion Lodge Campsite, perfectly situated for this West Yorkshire walk.

Horse Head Moor and Deepdale

Following this 5.5-mile hike is a challenging walk that will see you take in the picturesque Dales. Taking between two and three hours to complete, you’ll see all the sites as you make your way up Horse Head Pass and along the remote moorland ridge along the beautiful River Wharfe.

Looking for somewhere to stay? While this walk is in an isolated part of the Dales, located a short drive away is Eshton Road Camping and Caravanning Club Site, perfect for discovering this part of North Yorkshire

Hawes to Aysgill Force

With a number of steep hills and tracks across this rural route, it covers 4 miles of beautiful British scenery as you navigate the steep sections, narrow stiles and paths over the 1-2 hour hike.

Looking for somewhere to stay? Just over a mile away from the start of the trail is Blackburn Farm, a small campsite in this area of North Yorkshire.

Old Saltburn to Warsett Hill

Enjoy the coastal wildlife starting at the seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea. This 4.5 mile walk includes sculptures and a fascinating natural landscape as you make your way to Warsett Hill on the dog friendly route that can be completed inside of 2 hours.

Somewhere to stay? Located just a short drive from the start of this spectacular walk is North Shire campsite, the ideal location to explore Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

 

No matter where your feet take you in Yorkshire, always make sure that you make safety the top priority. Tell people where you go, make sure you take a phone with you and take extra care on slippery and uneven ground.
