Just back from...Cornwall

01st September 2017 | Bailey of Bristol
Ben Hickery, Dispatch Co-ordinator at Bailey of Bristol recently returned from a week-long trip with his family to Cornwall in an Autograph 79-4 motorhome.

Fill us in on what you got up to…

I went to the Lizard with my wife Kerry and twins Alfie and George, 12, where we stayed at a lovely campsite in the tiny village of Ruan Minor. The motorhome was a great place to stay and the campsite, Chy Carne was superb for a week’s stay in the school holidays.

Did you get any recommendations?

I’d stayed in the Lizard as a kid, and as we usually go to Devon I wanted to take the kids to see a different part of the country. A friend had recommended staying in Helston as it’s a lovely part of the Lizard Peninsula, and when we looked at Chy Carne, we knew it would be perfect.

Give us the background info…

We wanted to stay by the sea and Cornwall seemed ideal for a break during the summer holidays. Staying so close to Lizard Point meant we could take the kids to see the lighthouse and with Kennack Sands only a few minutes walk from our campsite, it meant we could pop down to the beach easily.

Tell us about the motorhome…

It was great for us to stay in a motorhome as we are used to staying in a caravan. The kids loved the motorhome, with its top of the range features. It was a great size for a family of four and never felt like it was crowded.

Give us a taste of what the food was like…

We spent every night at the campsite and thanks to Shacka Carne takeaway and Big Daddy’s Pizza we didn’t feel the need to go too far. We tended to have a cooked breakfast in the morning and would usually buy baguettes and make some sandwiches for lunch. In the evening I would have some locally caught cod, while Kerry had such things as homemade Chilli or Pulled Pork, Alfie and George were more than happy with pizza.

What was that special moment?

Being so close to Kennack Sands meant that we could wake up in the morning and within a few minutes we could be walking along the beach. It was definitely the best part of where we stayed.

Ben’s top tips for the Lizard Peninsula…

All the different beaches that are all only a short drive away. We visited Coverack CoveKynance Cove and Kennack Sands, if you do one thing in the Lizard, make sure you have a beach day.

One amazing activity…

Taking the kids to Flambards amusement park. It was a great day out and Alfie and George had a whale of a time. As thrill-seekers, the kids loved the rollercoasters.

Give us a final thought…

Having taken a motorhome away rather than a caravan, it is definitely something we would do again, and the Lizard was a great place to take the kids for a week away.
