Golden Years Premiere

22nd April 2016 | Rachel Lockyer
The Golden Years Charity Film Premiere, in aid of the Born Free Foundation, was being held on Thursday 14th April and the film production company, Moli Films, asked Bailey if we could display the caravan outside the Odeon cinema on Tottenham Court Road in London and then move to outside the after party venue in Camden.

Of course we jumped at the chance to be involved in such an exciting event and after further discussions with Moli Films we decided to use the caravan as an advertising board during the day, by towing the caravan through central London.

Whilst a caravan being towed through London is not an everyday occurrence we wanted the caravan to really attract people’s attention.  We worked with our graphics company, CGI, to come up with a striking design which we could apply to the caravan as a vinyl wrap.  Gold was the obvious choice for the main colour and then the film logo and sponsors logos were added to the rear of the caravan.  The wrap was painstakingly applied over two days by CGI’s team and they did a fantastic job with not a bubble in sight.

As we were planning an early start in London on the Thursday the caravan was kept safe and sound at The Caravan Club’s Alderstead Heath site on the outskirts of London.  The gold caravan certainly attracted some interest.  Land Rover provided a tow car for the duration of our trip creating a striking car and caravan combination.

Once we arrived in London we headed to Hatton Garden and managed to get some great shots of the caravan outside no 88 where the infamous jewellery heist took place last year.  Whilst the characters in the film were not quite on the same level as these thieves it certainly seemed an apt place to start our tour.  We then moved on to the Bank of England, before towing the caravan to Westminster to get some great shots with Big Ben and the Parliament buildings in the background.  Westminster Bridge and the London Eye were next on our list before driving past Buckingham Palace and along The Mall.  The caravan was an eye-catching sight and stirred a lot of interest from passers-by, many stopping to take photos or do a double-take.  The sunshine was starting to fade so as the grey skies rolled in we headed to Piccadilly Circus and Regent Street in order to do a few circuits of Berkley Square before heading to the venue where the premiere was being held.

Due to space restrictions outside of the cinema we were unable to park the caravan outside but the Odeon had a perfect parking space just around the corner which was ideal as the cast from the film were able to have their photographs taken with the caravan.  The golden wrap attracted more attention as the darkness started to descend and the dedicated lights showed off the Valencia’s curves.  The caravan provided a fantastic backdrop for Nick Knowles, Ellen Thomas, Virginia McKenna, Phil Davis and Simon Callow to have their publicity photographs taken.

Outside the cinema the red carpet was busy with the cast from the film and celebrities with lots of media interviews taking place.  There were even actors dressed as old ladies on segways to set the scene.  Many Londoners on their way home from work stopped to take in the action.[Once everyone was inside watching the film we packed up the caravan and towed it on to our final venue – Gilgamesh in Camden to set-up for the after-party before the guests arrived.  Parked next to the red carpet leading into the venue the Unicorn created a golden glow in the darkness.  Even the cold and the rain did not put off the celebrities from the premiere posing for photographs with the golden caravan before heading in to enjoy the after party.  At 11.00pm the star of the show was finally released from its duties and given a well-earned rest back at The Caravan Club site before towing it back to Bristol the following day.
