Family adventures in the Llyn Peninisula

27th July 2018 | Bailey of Bristol
So about us… We are the Morris family, a family of four - Lee, Sian and our children Eleri and Rhys. Sian and I have been avid caravan and campers for years. Now we are keeping that dream alive in our own little family.

Our current 30 year-old caravan has sadly come to a point where it is in need of quite a bit of repair. Many things don’t work anymore or are unsafe to use, so our caravanning life has been put on hold for a little while.

Bailey of Bristol gave us an incredible opportunity to use one of their very own caravans, a Pursuit 560-5 for a week, and enjoy it we did.

So tell me more about the Llyn Peninsula and Aberdaron I hear you say! Aberdaron is a former fishing village at the western tip of the Llyn Peninsula in the Welsh county of Gwynedd. It lies around 15 miles west of Pwllheli and 33 miles south west of Caernarfon. The village has a vast history around the pilgrims heading to Bardsey Island, the legendary “island of 20,000 saints”.

From tranquil relaxing days on the beach to kayaking the coastlines, there are plenty of activities all year round to keep many people wanting to come back for more. With breath-taking views, Aberdaron quickly become of our favourite places, leaving us with a taste for the years gone by.

About 2 miles outside of Aberdaron is a place called Uwchmynydd. Edging towards the very tip of the Llyn Peninsula it has outstanding views of Bardsey Island and its lighthouse.

Also in Uwchmynydd is Ty Newyydd Farm, the campsite that we stayed at for the week. Home to the onsite café, ‘Café Ty Newyydd’, I would have to say their cream teas are well worth the journey.

Come on, I want to know about the caravan!!

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this caravan and how well thought out the layout was. When we first picked it up, I did question whether it would work for us, however it absolutely did.

Although we did manage to borrow an air awning for the week off my parents, I would go as far to say we didn’t even need the awning for the extra space; it was just an added luxury to have.

We pitched up, dropped the legs and levelled it up in no time. Having the fixed bunk beds and lots of space inside we managed to get the kids in their PJs and in bed with no messing around.

With plenty of storage for our gear and no need to build the beds or find the bedding, bedtime was breathtakingly easy and enjoyable (almost as enjoyable as the wine, which followed)!

My parents came to join us over the weekend and we did all the cooking in the Pursuit. We happily catered for six of us every mealtime. The cupboards are also brilliantly huge, they stored so much and we didn’t even use half of the cupboard space.

On our camping trips, we are outside 90% of the time, usually because ample space in our van is something we lacked. Inside the Pursuit however, there was so much space to spend time together as a family. The inbuilt radio worked so well and we watched the television as if we’d never been able to.

The dinette was a great area to play with games and toys, and still allowed us ample space to cook. It really was a great layout, which just worked really well for us as a family of four

The Truma heating system can only be described as one word in cold, wet and windy Wales… Amazing! We really loved the easy-to-use system and boy did it work.

Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and even though it rained five out of the seven days, the caravan was a fantastic living space, ideal for our little family. It was easy to keep clean and tidy, pleasant to tow and pleasurable to stay in.

If I could, I would have this van in a shot. If this is an entry range caravan then I’d love to see what the higher models have to offer.

So if you like a peaceful relaxing holiday with wonderful coastlines, glorious walks, and beautiful beaches then the Llyn Peninsula is for you. If you want a big, spacious and great living space for a family of 4/5 with younger children, then I would 100% recommend the Bailey Pursuit 560-5.

Happy caravanning.
